Driver Spotlight: John Schaeffer

Posted on

I'm the driver of The Silver Juice, I have been drag racing most of my life and competing in sports or bodybuilding. I started out racing Friday Night Test and Tunes at ORP here in Rogersville, MO - then went on to racing the GM High Performance Series & Small Tire Shootouts.

My brother and I bought this car as a hobby project and wanted to build the fastest stock LS1 but things quickly changed and we wanted to go FAST. We built a Nitrous Huffing motor that I raced the last seven years in NMCA Real Street - where you run on a limited jet and street trim car went 8.10@168 in the 1/4.

I wanted to move up to the next class so I switched to ProCharger to be more competitive and race Outlaw and 275 drag radial in NMCA, The last few year the no prep racing game has exploded here in the Midwest with the help from Wes at ShoMeSpeed who does all my tuning the car will do down any track. The thing that makes a good racer is his Team: companies and friends that help out at every race, or in my garage at home.

That is what makes it fun - Teamwork makes the dream work.

The car is a 1999 Camaro Z28, full street legal car, with a Dart LS Next from Mike Lough Racing Engines. Diamond Pistons came on board last year, and we are testing the LSK pistons that are a great off-the-shelf piston paired with a Cam Motion cam, and Mast Cathedral heads to drive air from the F1X Procharger to maximize the power. The suspension is Umi full suspension with a Midwest Chassis Torque arm and Afco race shock on all 4 corners to drive the cars 1.17 60fts. The computer I run Is a AEM 708 with the CD7 dash so I can see what car is doing during the run paired with AEM 8 AFR widebands this year so Wes at ShoMeSpeed could even fine tune the combo. To stop the car I have Aerospace Brakes all around the car. We should see 4.5xs out of the car this year on a 275 drag radial this year.
